BIOGRAPHY:

The Head Full of Ghosts origin story began when lead vocalist/songwriter James Henes crossed paths with drummer Bryan King while performing in various venues. The two became fast friends and realized they needed to work together. Following the release of their first acoustic album “321 Miles”, recorded entirely without seeing each other during the Covid-19 pandemic, the duo accompanied by then bassist Mark Hensel made a shift towards a more traditional rock sound.  Henes would often cite that King sent him a recording of the acoustic version of “Lyrical Me” accompanied by a full drum kit, opposed to the recorded Cajon, which triggered the shift toward a more traditional arrangement.

Following a short hiatus, HFOG brought in bassist Geoff Loebe and guitarist Ken Ball to help write and record their 2nd batch of tunes in what would become the EP release “654 Seconds.”  In 2024, the quartet went on to release their first full length rock album “10.23”. After the release, the band amicably parted ways with Loebe.

The current iteration of the band is joined by bassist Nick Raeon. With the current line-up, the band continues to find success, including being voted Best New Artist for Washtenaw county via Current Magazine in 2025. With plans to revisit the studio in the fall of 2026, HFOG maintains their momentum by expanding their listeners, putting together intricate performances regionally, and continuing to write music that is unapologetically theirs.
